A tragic incident occurred in the Oshodi area of Lagos on Saturday when a moving train struck and killed a 50-year-old man named Emmanuel. The accident happened near the Arena Shopping Mall in Oshodi, leaving the community in shock and raising concerns about safety near railway tracks.
According to reports, the victim’s sister, who has not been named, was alerted about the accident through a phone call around 9 a.m. She was informed that her older brother had been fatally hit by the train. Distraught by the news, she later reached out to the authorities to report the incident.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the tragedy through its spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin. He stated that the Mosafejo Division received notification of the incident around 1:33 p.m. and quickly took action.
“The scene was visited and photographed by a team of detectives,” Hundeyin said.
He added, “The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.”
Hundeyin also mentioned that the case has been handed over to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta for further investigation.
“The matter is now under the jurisdiction of the Railway Police Command as they look into the circumstances surrounding the accident,” he noted.

The precise details of how Emmanuel ended up on the railway track remain unclear. However, the incident has drawn comparisons to a similar tragedy in August when a man was also struck and killed by a train in the Mushin area of Lagos. In that case, the accident occurred around 6 p.m. as the victim was walking along the Cappa railway tracks.
Following the earlier incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) issued a statement, with spokesperson Nosa Okunbor confirming the man’s death at the scene.
“The victim was found with severe injuries from the collision and was confirmed to have died instantly due to the impact of the crash,” Okunbor stated.
These recent accidents have highlighted the dangers that pedestrians face near railway tracks in densely populated areas like Lagos. The incidents have sparked calls from the public for increased safety measures and more awareness around railway areas to prevent further tragedies.
