President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to unite in building the nation, emphasizing that no amount of foreign aid can substitute for the collective effort of the citizens. Speaking to a joint session of the national assembly in Abuja on Wednesday, Tinubu stressed the importance of self-reliance and collaboration among Nigerians.
“No institution or personality will help us grow except ourselves,” Tinubu asserted.
He highlighted the critical role of the national assembly in his political journey, noting, “Without this house, I probably would not have found a path to the presidency; I started it all from here. That is why I have given that respect to you this morning and will continue to collaborate with you to build our country together.”
In his address, Tinubu underscored the significance of national unity and self-determination. “No amount of aid from foreign countries can help us. Let us work together to build our nation, charting a new path,” he stated.
The president also expressed his gratitude to the lawmakers for their contributions to the development of the national assembly.
“I thank you for building up this institution to this level,” Tinubu said.
He acknowledged the assembly’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s democratic progress, adding, “You are the foremost leaders who speak for our people and have been at the forefront of this struggle.”
Tinubu’s speech coincided with the celebration of 25 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria, a milestone he highlighted in his remarks.
“Our friends, old and new, to every Nigerian, I say congratulations on 25 years of unbroken democracy,” he proclaimed.
He urged for the nurturing of the nation’s democracy to ensure future generations inherit a prosperous and progressive country.
“Our democracy must be nurtured so that our children and great-grandchildren will be assured of prosperity, progress, and development,” he concluded.
The president’s call to action aims to inspire a renewed sense of patriotism and responsibility among Nigerians, reinforcing the idea that the nation’s success hinges on the collective efforts of its people.
