The African Democratic Congress (ADC) claims the Presidency is now in “panic mode” because the party’s new opposition coalition is growing stronger.
“It took the emergence of the ADC and a united opposition to push this government into action. It wasn’t the hunger of millions of Nigerians that moved them—it was fear of the 2027 elections,” said Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s interim national publicity secretary, in a statement on Sunday.

Abdullahi reacted to a weekend post by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, who said the government will remove “all bottlenecks” that block food security and exports. The ADC spokesman questioned why such steps were coming only after the coalition’s launch.
“This government had, by design, been sitting on its hands while Nigerians starved. Now, under mounting political pressure, they want applause for doing the bare minimum? This is a scramble for survival,” Abdullahi said.
Abdullahi accused President Bola Tinubu’s team of “calculated incompetence” and claimed the administration had “deliberately weaponized poverty” to manage political optics before 2027.
“President Tinubu is already campaigning two years early because he knows he’s in trouble. Every move they make is about political calculation ahead of 2027. Nigerians, shine your eyes,” Abdullahi added.
The ADC says it will keep challenging the government on the economy, food prices, and poverty. Meanwhile, the Presidency has yet to respond directly to Abdullahi’s latest statements.
