The Imo State Police Command has intensified efforts to locate and rescue Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, the parish priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish in Obollo, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State. Fr. Azubuike was abducted Tuesday night along the Aliyi community in Obollo while returning to his parish from an assignment.
Speaking about the incident, Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, assured the public that the police are determined to rescue the priest and apprehend the culprits.
“The CP has set up a high-powered investigation team to look into this matter for possible rescue of the Catholic priest and apprehension of the suspects,” Okoye stated.
Fr. Azubuike, who has been serving his community as a priest since his ordination on September 27, 2014, under the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe, is well-known and respected within the diocese. His sudden abduction has prompted an outpouring of concern and prayers from church leaders and members of the community.

In a statement issued by Very Rev. Fr. Princewill Iwuanyanwu, the chancellor and secretary of the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe, the Church called for fervent prayers for Fr. Azubuike’s safe return.
“I am directed to inform you that one of our priests, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, was kidnapped this evening, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at about 6 pm,” the statement read.
It went on to appeal to both the clergy and laity to join in praying for the priest’s safety.
Iwuanyanwu said, “We solicit your fervent prayers that he may come back to us safe and sound while trusting in your goodwill and solidarity.”
The community has also rallied in support of Fr. Azubuike, hoping for his swift and safe return. David Ajaero, the councillor of Obollo Ward, confirmed the kidnapping and expressed the community’s deep concern.
“We are all praying for his unconditional release,” Ajaero said.
Describing Fr. Azubuike as “a very good man,” he urged the public to continue praying for his safety and swift rescue.
