The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a yet-to-be-identified cross-dresser whose body was discovered along the Katampe-Mabushi Expressway in Abuja. The incident has sparked public outrage, with many calling for swift justice.
According to a statement from the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the command received a distress call on Thursday reporting a woman’s corpse along the expressway. However, upon arrival at the scene, detectives found that the deceased was a man dressed in female clothing, with no identification on him.
Adeh explained, “We received a distress call reporting a corpse found on the Katampe-Mabushi Expressway. Detectives dispatched to the scene discovered the individual was a man dressed in female clothing with no identification. He was immediately taken to the Maitama District Hospital, where doctors on duty confirmed him dead.”
The discovery of the body, which had visible blood stains on the face, has raised concerns about the circumstances leading to the death. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police FCT, Benneth Igweh, has promptly ordered a discreet investigation to find out the circumstances surrounding his death. Updates on this matter will be communicated in due course,” Adeh added.
The police found a handbag and other personal items near the body, which were photographed and shared with the public. The images have circulated widely on social media, leading to an outpouring of reactions from users on X.com (formerly Twitter), who condemned the act and urged the authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
One user, @Omowumi_Ewatee, expressed shock, writing, “Kai!!! How can people be this wicked?”
