A fierce gun battle between security forces and armed bandits in Zamfara State has left several bandits dead, including a notorious kingpin, Dan Isuhu Mudale. However, the attack also claimed the lives of a policeman, four Community Protection Guard (CPG) members, and two hunters.

The clash happened in the early hours of Friday in Keta village, Tsafe Local Government Area, when bandits stormed the community with the intention of attacking villagers. Security operatives, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU), hunters, and civilian protection guards, quickly mobilized to repel the attackers.

According to a statement from the Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the security forces engaged the heavily armed bandits in a gun battle.

“At approximately 1540 hours, a good Samaritan reported that a large number of armed bandits had stormed Keta town with the intention of perpetrating their inhumane acts. In response, a joint operation comprising PMF, CTU, hunters, and CPG mobilized and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle,” Abubakar said.

During the exchange, one policeman, four Community Protection Guard members, and two hunters lost their lives. Additionally, two hunters who sustained serious injuries were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau for treatment.

Despite the tragic loss of security personnel, the operation was successful, as several bandits were neutralized. Among those killed was Dan Isuhu Mudale, a notorious criminal who had terrorized Tsafe and surrounding areas for years.

Abubakar reassured residents that the police and other security agencies remain committed to ensuring peace and safety in Zamfara State.

In his statement, Abubakar urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.

“We are committed to restoring peace in the state, and we urge citizens to provide any useful information that can help security agencies combat crime effectively,” he said.

The recent attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara, where bandits have frequently targeted rural communities. However, security agencies continue to intensify efforts to curb these criminal activities and restore normalcy in the state.
