Police Arrest Suspected Baby Factory Operator in Akwa Ibom

Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested a woman suspected of running a baby factory, where seven pregnant women and five infants were found in captivity. The suspect, identified as Patience Ene Jimmy, was taken into custody during a police raid in Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area.

DSP Timfon John, the spokesperson for the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday. He said the operation was carried out to shut down an illegal maternity home allegedly involved in child trafficking, unlawful medical practice, and impersonation.

Shocking Discovery During Raid

According to DSP John, police officers raided the premises and found seven pregnant women and five infants, aged between two weeks and one year, who had been taken from different parts of Akwa Ibom State.

“Operatives of the Command raided the premises and arrested one Patience Ene Jimmy, found harboring seven pregnant women and five infants,” he stated.

Further investigation revealed various medical supplies at the location, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization records. Police said the suspect had no legal authorization to operate a maternity home or handle medical procedures.

Victims Placed Under Protective Care

Authorities have taken the rescued women and children into protective custody while investigations continue. The police are also working to identify other individuals who may be connected to the illegal operation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, assured the public that the Command is committed to fighting criminal activities that put vulnerable individuals at risk.

“The police will not tolerate illegal activities that endanger women and children. We will ensure that justice is served,” CP Azare stated.
