The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Auwal Mohammed, for allegedly supplying bread and other items to kidnappers in the Mazah community, Jos North Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, confirmed the arrest while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Jos on Thursday.k
“As part of our efforts to rid Plateau State of kidnapping activities, the command has arrested a member of a kidnap syndicate around Mazah community,” Adesina said.
He explained that Mohammed, who hails from Tilde Fulani in Toro LGA of Bauchi State, was caught on August 3 by detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit while trying to deliver food and supplies to his gang members.
The police said items found on him included loaves of bread, packets of cigarettes, custard, torchlight, glucose, tea, a cutlass, and a Tecno Camon phone belonging to one of the victims.
“During our interview, the suspect confessed that he is a member of a kidnap syndicate operating between Plateau and Bauchi States. He also revealed that he was out on a mission to get more supplies for his fellow gang members, while they await a response from their victim’s family,” the commissioner said.

The CP added that detectives also arrested three other suspected kidnappers — Sunusi Abdullahi, Suleiman Saidu, and Abbas Yusuf — in Bassa LGA. In another operation, the police rescued a victim, Ebuka, and arrested four suspects with a locally made pistol.
The command also arrested three men in separate cases for illegal possession of firearms, including a revolver rifle and two locally fabricated pistols.
Adesina assured residents that the police were ready to tackle crime during the Ember Months.
“I have directed all DPOs and heads of Tactical/Patrol Teams to embark on Ember Month Surveillance operations to ensure citizens and visitors are safe during this period,” he said.
He urged members of the public to support security agencies with credible information.
“All the suspects will be charged in court after investigation,” the CP added.
