The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially summoned former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to appear before its disciplinary committee over alleged anti-party activities. This action marks a significant step in the ongoing tension between Wike and the PDP leadership.
The PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, revealed this development on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. Abdullahi explained that Wike had been called to answer for his actions before the party’s disciplinary committee, which is chaired by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi.
“Three weeks ago, we established two committees, one for reconciliation and another for disciplinary actions. Nyesom Wike is among those summoned to face the disciplinary committee. This committee will examine various issues of anti-party activities that have been reported,” Abdullahi said.
According to Abdullahi, the committee has received multiple petitions accusing Wike and other party members of sabotaging the party during the primary elections, which contributed to the current state of affairs within the PDP. These petitions have been forwarded to the disciplinary committee for review.
“Some party members believe that Wike’s actions should have led to his removal from the party by now. His recent statements, particularly about ‘putting fire’ in the states of PDP governors, are deeply concerning and unacceptable,” Abdullahi added.
This development comes shortly after Wike, who is currently serving in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressed satisfaction with his new role despite criticism from within his party. During a recent PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, Wike warned that he would cause political turmoil in the states of any PDP governor who interfered with party matters in Rivers State.
In a controversial statement, Wike also suggested that anyone unhappy with his position in Tinubu’s government should “go and hug a transformer,” a remark that has further fueled tensions within the PDP.
