The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Wednesday after the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, declared that the Akwa Ibom State Working Committee had not been dissolved, contrary to an earlier statement by the National Publicity Secretary.
In a letter dated October 1, 2025, and addressed to the state chairman, Aniekan Akpan, Anyanwu said the announcement of dissolution should be ignored because no official meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) approved it.
“For purposes of clarity, that press release should be discountenanced, because there was no formal sitting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in which such decision was taken,” Anyanwu wrote.
He accused the Publicity Secretary of acting beyond his powers, stressing that it was not his duty to enforce NWC decisions.
“The purported announcement is null and void and of no effect,” he stated.

Anyanwu reaffirmed Akpan’s leadership and directed him and his team to continue their duties as provided in the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).
The move has fueled fresh suspicions of a power struggle within the PDP’s national leadership, as senior officers continue to issue conflicting directives.
Party insiders warned that the clash could worsen factional divisions and undermine confidence in the legitimacy of decisions taken in the name of the NWC.
