The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, of creating unrest in the state.
According to the PDP, Okocha’s actions aim to undermine the results of the recent governorship election, which elected Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, said, “The reckless outburst by Tony Okocha further exposes the sinister plot by the APC in Rivers State which has been seeking for ways to instigate crisis, forcefully overthrow a democratic order, and impose an anti-democratic regime.” He emphasized that such actions are a violation of the Nigerian Constitution.
The PDP urged the Inspector General of Police to summon Okocha for questioning, stating that his statements pose a danger to both the state and the country. “The use of the word ‘war’ by Mr. Okocha in his thoughtless statement clearly shows an evil intention,” Ologunagba added. He insisted that the people of Rivers State will resist any attempts to disrupt the democratic process.
Additionally, the PDP called on the federal government and the national APC leadership to caution Okocha against actions that threaten democracy. Ologunagba stated, “Our party demands that the Inspector General of Police immediately invite the Rivers State APC Caretaker Chairman and hold him personally liable for his utterances which constitute a clear and present danger to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria and to peace and tranquility in Rivers State.”
The PDP also appealed to the international community to monitor the situation, warning that Okocha’s behavior could negatively impact the security of the country.
