Victor Osimhen

Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, has seen his market value drop from €120 million to €75 million, according to new data from football statistics website Transfermarkt.

Despite the decline, Osimhen remains Nigeria’s most valuable footballer and one of Africa’s biggest stars. The 26-year-old now ranks just behind Achraf Hakimi of Morocco among the continent’s top-valued players.

Transfermarkt’s latest report shows that Osimhen’s market value peaked at €120 million in 2023 during his outstanding spell with Napoli, where he led the Italian club to their first Serie A title in more than 30 years.

Osimhen’s career journey began at Wolfsburg in Germany, where his value was just above €1 million. After limited playing time in the Bundesliga, he moved to Charleroi in Belgium, where strong performances doubled his market worth.

His breakthrough came at Lille in France, where impressive displays in Ligue 1 and the Europa League lifted his value to about €50 million and attracted attention from top European clubs.

In 2020, Osimhen completed a record move to Napoli, where he became one of Europe’s most feared strikers. His explosive pace and goal-scoring form saw his market value skyrocket above €100 million, reaching a record €120 million in 2023 — the highest ever for a Nigerian player.

However, his value began to fall in 2024 due to injuries, reduced playing time, and uncertainty surrounding his future at Napoli. His transfer to Galatasaray this year, after an initial loan spell, led to another market adjustment, setting his value at €75 million.

Despite the drop, Osimhen still ranks ahead of other African stars like Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmous.

Football analysts say his journey from a struggling young player in Germany to a €120 million superstar highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in world football.

For many fans, Osimhen’s story remains a powerful symbol of resilience and success.
