Oladele Wins 2024 Abuja Bikers' Race

Ogunrinde Oladele, a 15-year-old cyclist, emerged victorious at the third edition of the Abuja Bikers’ Race, held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja. The event, which took place yesterday, attracted a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators eager to see the high-speed competition unfold.

Oladele’s win came after an intense race where he showcased his speed and skill on the track. Following his victory, Oladele expressed his joy and attributed his success to consistent hard work and dedicated preparation.

“I prepare and practice every day. That is the price you pay to become a champion. I see myself in the Olympics, the world championships, the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and other global cycling competitions in the future,” Oladele told journalists.

Oladele also highlighted his recent participation in the National Youth Games, where he finished ninth in the time trial event. Despite not taking the top spot there, his determination to improve has only grown stronger, as he sets his sights on achieving even greater heights in his cycling career.

Among the competitors was McCarthy Maccharlene, who made history as the first female cyclist to cross the finish line in the race.

Speaking about her achievement, she said, “I was surprised I made it as the first girl to reach the finish line. I didn’t know I could do it.”

Her accomplishment was met with applause, highlighting the growing prominence of female cyclists in the sport.

The event also received support from the organizers, including Mrs. Gloria Udohkhai, chairperson of Dynamic Women on Point. She emphasized the purpose of the race, noting that it aims to encourage more people to participate in sports and to provide a platform for young cyclists to showcase their talent.

“We want to inspire young people to engage in sporting activities and discover their potential,” Udohkhai stated.

The winners of the race were rewarded with cash prizes. Oladele, as the overall winner, took home N50,000, while the second-place finisher received N30,000, and the third-place participant earned N20,000.
