The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd. has announced its continued commitment to regulatory excellence following the recent certification of its compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

NNPC’s Executive Vice President of Business Services, Mr Inuwa Danladi, highlighted the significance of this achievement, stating, “This certification is crucial for our business continuity as it prevents potential operational disruptions and financial losses.”

The ISPS certification, issued in April 2024, covers all NNPC jetties nationwide and underscores the company’s adherence to regulatory standards.

Danladi noted that the certification not only confirms NNPC’s compliance but also grants the company entry into the Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS). This enhancement boosts NNPC’s reputation as a safe and reliable business destination and may lead to reduced insurance premiums.

In his remarks, Danladi detailed the rigorous processes undertaken to secure the certification, including upgrading security facilities at ports and jetties, establishing the ISPS Code Command Centre, and engaging a NIMASA Recognized Security Officer (RSO). The RSO played a critical role in managing key regulatory processes, ensuring that NNPC met all necessary standards.

Furthermore, the development of Port Facility Security Assessments (PFSA) and Port Facility Security Plans (PFSP), along with a meticulous Verification Inspection Exercise (VIE) conducted by NIMASA, was instrumental in achieving the certification. “This achievement is a testament to our consistent dedication, and we pledge to continue striving towards attaining regulatory excellence in all our operations,” Danladi emphasized.

The certification reflects NNPC’s ongoing efforts to improve processes and performance, reinforcing its position as a leader in the industry committed to the highest standards of maritime security.

Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer for NNPC Ltd., also praised the company’s dedication to maintaining regulatory compliance and excellence in all its operations.
