NDLEA Arrests Village Head, Corps Member, and Others for Drug Offences

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested several individuals for drug-related offences across Nigeria.

On July 5, NDLEA operatives arrested the head of Akarabata community in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Ige Babatunde, for possessing 5kg of fresh cannabis plants.

Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson, said, “The head of Akarabata community in Ile-Ife, Ba’ale Ige Babatunde, 50, was arrested with fresh cannabis plants that weighed 5kg.”

In Kano State, a corps member, Yusuf Abdulrahman, was arrested on July 3 at the Corpers Lodge in Sumaila with 1.25kg of Loud, a potent cannabis strain.

Babafemi stated, “Operatives arrested a youth corps member, Yusuf Abdulrahman, 25, at Corpers Lodge with 1.25kg of Loud.”

In Lagos, the NDLEA dismantled a high-profile cocaine syndicate led by Agbakoba John Mmadu and his wife, Agbakoba Ijeoma Chinwe. The raid on July 3 led to the seizure of 10.1kg of cocaine valued at over N2.1 billion.

Babafemi explained, “Seven parcels of cocaine weighing 7.652kg were recovered from Mmadu, while 122 compressed pellets weighing 2.42kg were seized from Ijeoma and their associate.”

On July 4, NDLEA operatives in Benue State intercepted 350 grams of cocaine hidden in an MP3 speaker. The follow-up operation led to the arrest of Odeh Anthony, the owner of the consignment.

In Adamawa State, Yves Ahmat Gali, a Chadian national, was arrested on July 3. He was found with a loudspeaker containing 5.2kg of Loud during a stop-and-search operation.

Additionally, the NDLEA raided Ikota forest in Ondo State, destroying 42,500kg of cannabis and recovering 73.5kg for prosecution. The suspects, Monday Ali and Jimoh Alewi, were arrested during the five-day operation.

In Abuja, NDLEA officers arrested Sanusi Mamman and Usaini Ibrahim on July 6. They were caught with 1,132 bottles of codeine syrup, 13,540 pills of tramadol, 50,000 pills of diazepam, and 59 pills of rophynol.

Babafemi noted, “The suspects claimed they were bringing the opioids from Onitsha, Anambra State.”
