Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has said he feels “lucky” to have played alongside Lionel Messi during their time together at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), describing the Argentine legend as humble and respectful.
Speaking in an interview on Movistar Fútbol on Sunday, the 26-year-old French captain reflected on his two-year partnership with Messi between 2021 and 2023, saying it was an experience he never imagined.
“I was lucky enough to play with Leo Messi. I never thought I’d play alongside him, because my dream was always Real Madrid. I never considered joining Barcelona. I was really surprised, because everything was so normal in the dressing room,” Mbappe said.

Mbappe praised Messi’s humility despite his global fame, calling him “completely down to earth.”
“When you’re famous, a lot of people label you, both as a person and as a player. But Messi respects everyone. And he’s a unique player,” he said.
Mbappe’s comments come as he continues his first season at Real Madrid, having joined the Spanish club in 2024 on a free transfer — a move he described as the fulfilment of his lifelong dream.
The French forward left PSG as the club’s all-time top scorer, with 256 goals in 308 appearances, while Messi provided 20 assists for him during their time together.
Their partnership at PSG produced several memorable moments, combining Messi’s creativity and Mbappe’s finishing to dominate French football before both stars moved on to new chapters in their careers.
