The acting National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has said the party is not worried about recent defections. She insisted the LP remains strong and committed to building a better Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday in Kaduna State, Usman said the party is focused on giving Nigerians a credible alternative to what she called the “rudderless and visionless” government of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The APC has failed Nigerians. The suffering of our people has never been this widespread or this severe,” she said.
She described the APC-led government as the most impoverishing in Nigeria’s history and said the hardship citizens are facing has reached an unbearable level.
On the issue of defections, including those from LP to APC, Usman expressed disappointment. She said it is wrong for politicians to win elections under one party and then defect for selfish reasons.
“It is disheartening to see people jump ship after securing victory on one party’s platform, only to defect for selfish gain. Such actions are not only morally wrong but also legally questionable” she said.

Despite the defections, Usman said the Labour Party is not shaken. She believes those who left never truly shared the party’s vision.
“We made some mistakes in candidate selection, but those lessons have been learned. Going forward, we will be more deliberate in choosing those who genuinely align with our mission of building a new Nigeria,” she said.
She urged all aggrieved members to put aside their differences and join hands to move the party forward. She announced that the party would soon begin a nationwide membership revalidation, as well as congresses and a national convention, all approved by the National Executive Council.
Usman ended by calling on Nigerians not to lose faith in the Labour Party, promising that the party will continue to work for people-centered governance and national dignity.
