The Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Police Command have reaffirmed their commitment to work together in addressing the rising problem of land grabbing and other security challenges in the state. This was announced during a meeting between the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos, Lawal Pedro (SAN), and the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, on Tuesday.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Justice in Alausa, Ikeja, served as a platform for both parties to discuss key security concerns and strengthen their collaboration. Lawal Pedro emphasized the importance of working closely with the police to tackle the growing issue of land grabbing, which has been a major problem for many Lagos residents.
“Land grabbing is a menace that continues to affect many communities in Lagos. Stronger cooperation between the police and the Ministry of Justice is needed to address this issue and ensure that citizens’ rights are protected,” Pedro said.
Pedro also highlighted the critical role of the partnership between the police and the justice system in ensuring the swift and fair delivery of justice. He stressed the need for continued dialogue to confront emerging security issues and uphold the rule of law in Lagos.
“The synergy between our institutions is crucial for the delivery and quick dispensation of justice in the state. This visit signifies our collective dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that every citizen enjoys their rights under the law,” he added.
The newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from the Attorney General’s office and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Lagos. He noted that the ongoing collaboration between the police and legal officers is key to improving security in the state.
“Our visit today is to strengthen the already existing cooperation between the police and legal officers in the state. Together, we are committed to building a safer Lagos,” Olanrewaju said.

“The problem of land grabbing is a growing concern, and it is affecting the peace and security of many communities. By working closely with the Attorney General’s office, we will ensure that offenders are not only apprehended but also prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” he stated.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to explore new policies that would help close legal loopholes often exploited by land grabbers. Pedro pledged the Ministry of Justice’s full cooperation in supporting the police’s efforts to protect property owners and maintain peace across the state.
Commissioner Olanrewaju Ishola took over from the former Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, who was recently redeployed as Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 2, Onikan.
