The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard, Amos Kini, for allegedly kidnapping his employer’s two-year-old son and demanding a ransom of N5 million.
Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement on Monday that the incident happened on September 21, 2025, in the Elemoro area of Lagos.
“The mother of the child reported at the Elemoro Division that her security guard had absconded with her son and mobile phone to an unknown location around 11:50 p.m. The suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the father of the child, demanding a ransom of N5 million for his release,” Adebisi said.

Police operatives quickly launched a search, questioning Aruna Dauda, who had stood as guarantor for Kini’s employment. Under pressure, Kini released the child before being tracked down and arrested at a hideout in Elemoro on September 23.
The suspect confessed to the crime and remains in custody. Police said he will face trial after investigations are completed.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the act and assured residents of the command’s resolve to fight violent crimes.
“This abduction of an innocent child is unacceptable. We remain committed to protecting lives and property in Lagos. We urge parents and guardians to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police through our emergency numbers,” Jimoh said.
The case adds to recent incidents of abductions by domestic workers in Lagos. In August, police arrested a 32-year-old painter, Chigozie Clement, for abducting a customer’s seven-year-old son in Ketu Alapere and demanding N7 million ransom before he was tracked to Ijegun and arrested.
