Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is effectively “dead” in Nigeria. He made this bold statement on Saturday during the inauguration of a renovated NNPP office in Katsina State.
Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State and a key figure in Nigerian politics, explained that he and his followers left the PDP because the party had lost its relevance.
“I wish to remind you that PDP is dead because we left the party. Since they have gone out of the line, we decided to check out,” Kwankwaso said during his speech.
The political heavyweight expressed confidence in his chances of winning the 2027 presidential election. He emphasized that the NNPP is not only prepared to take over the presidency but is also poised to gain control of multiple states across the country.
Kwankwaso urged Nigerians not to be swayed by gifts or money during the next general election, highlighting the importance of making informed choices. His message was clear: voters should prioritize the future of the country over short-term incentives.
In addition to Kwankwaso’s remarks, Katsina NNPP Chairman, Armaya’u Abdulkadir, spoke about the party’s efforts in the state. Abdulkadir said that the NNPP is actively working to educate the electorate about the party’s new logo, which he stated symbolizes the party’s commitment to providing education for all—a central focus of the Kwankwasiyya movement led by Kwankwaso.
“There is the need for the party to embark on grassroots sensitisation to inform the members on the importance of the new logo,” Abdulkadir added, underscoring the party’s ongoing efforts to connect with voters at the local level.
