Hackers have taken control of the official Facebook page of the Kano State Hisbah Board, using the platform to share inappropriate and explicit content. The breach, which occurred on Wednesday, has drawn widespread condemnation from the public.

Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Commander General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed the hack to journalists on Friday and assured that steps are being taken to address the situation.

“Kano State Hisbah Board is aware that its Facebook page has been hacked and inappropriate things are being shared. On behalf of the board, I call on people to help solve this problem,” he said.

The explicit content posted on the page has caused significant outrage, as the Hisbah Board is known for promoting moral values and enforcing Sharia law in Kano State. The unauthorized posts starkly contrast the board’s principles, heightening the gravity of the breach.

Sheikh Daurawa reassured the public that the board’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department is actively working to regain control of the page. He mentioned that the board is in discussions with Meta, Facebook’s parent company, to resolve the issue swiftly.

“We are working closely with Meta to restore our page and prevent further dissemination of inappropriate content,” Sheikh Daurawa stated.

He also urged the community to assist by reporting the hacked page to Meta in English, emphasizing the importance of collective action to stop the spread of the explicit material.

Sani Zailani, the Head of ICT at the Hisbah Board, revealed that this is not the first time the board’s social media account has been targeted by hackers.

“The account has experienced previous hacks,” “Meta has been contacted regarding the latest breach, and they have pledged to resolve the issue within 48 hours,” Zailani said.

Zailani expressed gratitude for the public’s support and concern during this challenging time. He emphasized that efforts are ongoing to recover the page and regain full control, ensuring that the board can continue its work without further disruption.
