In a tragic incident, gunmen have killed five people, including a pastor, in Kimakpa village, Kwall District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack occurred around midnight on June 2, 2024.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Sam Jugo, confirmed the killings in a statement on Tuesday. “We woke up this morning to another sad one. In the middle of the night of June 2, 2024, criminal invaders attacked and killed five of our residents in cold blood at Kimakpa,” Jugo said.
Among the victims was Pastor Dauda Dalyop of the Assemblies of God Church, Keall. The other deceased were identified as Mrs. Chummy Dauda, 57, Mr. Chwe Ajuhs, 26, Mr. Joshua Kusa, 45, and Mrs. Rikwe Doro, 43.
“Two persons were severely injured and are currently undergoing treatment at home. Troops of Operation Safe Haven were instantly mobilized to avert further genocide. There’s uneasy calm in Kwall District,” Jugo added.
The attack follows closely on the heels of another violent incident.
“This sad incident came just two days after some disgruntled elements ambushed some Rigwe youths on motorcycles while returning from Gero mining site, killing Mr. Irmiya Musa Timbi instantly and severely injuring another,” Jugo said.
Jugo appealed for calm and urged the community to cooperate with security agencies.
“We should upscale our vigilance, avoid night movements to distant destinations, and suppress the urge for reprisal or taking the law into our own hands. We call on the security agencies to do the needful by fishing out the culprits so that those affected will see justice being served as that’s the only way to restore the confidence of our people,” he said.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau State, DSP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.
The community remains on edge as security agencies continue their investigations and efforts to restore peace and order in the region.
