Google has announced that it will phase out Google Assistant later this year and replace it with Gemini, its new AI-powered assistant. The tech giant made the announcement in a blog post on Friday, revealing plans to transition users to the more advanced AI system across mobile devices.

While Google did not provide a specific date for the transition, it confirmed that Google Assistant will no longer be available on most mobile devices by the end of 2025.

A Shift to Advanced AI

Google Assistant, introduced in 2016, was built on natural language processing and voice recognition. However, Gemini, which launched last year, offers more advanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities, allowing users to interact with AI through text, images, and audio.

Google emphasized that Gemini is designed to be a more helpful and intelligent assistant. “To continue our work of building the world’s most helpful assistant, we’ve reimagined the experience with AI at its core to make Gemini your personal, AI-powered assistant,” the company said.

The statement further highlighted the rapid evolution of AI-driven assistants, adding, “While our expectations for what an assistant can do are rapidly changing, the mission remains the same.”

Millions Already Using Gemini

According to Google, millions of users have already transitioned from Assistant to Gemini and have provided positive feedback. The company said it plans to expand the transition to more mobile devices in the coming months.

The blog post stated, “Millions of people have already made the switch from Google Assistant to Gemini, and they are telling us how helpful the new, AI-powered features are in their daily lives. So we want to update you on how we’ll bring this enhanced experience to as many people as possible.”

To make the transition smoother, Google has incorporated several popular features from Google Assistant into Gemini. Users will still be able to play music, set timers, and perform other common tasks, but with added AI-powered enhancements.

While some users may find it challenging to adjust to the new system, Google is confident that Gemini’s capabilities will offer a more advanced and seamless experience.
