Former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ganduje, who led the party since 2023, stepped down with immediate effect, according to sources inside the APC headquarters in Abuja.
“Between me and you, it is true, but I can’t confirm officially — and please don’t quote me,” a senior party official told TheCable under anonymity.
Though Ganduje did not publicly give a reason for his resignation, party insiders say political pressure may have influenced his decision.
One source said a new acting chairman would be appointed soon from among the party’s national vice chairman. This temporary leader will serve until the party holds its convention in December.

Ganduje’s sudden exit came as a surprise to many, especially because he was active in public events just hours before announcing his resignation.
Earlier today, Ganduje led the APC’s National Working Committee on a condolence visit to the Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago, in Abuja. They offered sympathy for the victims of a deadly flood in Mokwa, which claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands, and for recent bandit attacks in Mariga Local Government Area.
On Thursday, Ganduje also attended a meeting between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and political party leaders, showing no signs of stepping down.
Ganduje served as governor of Kano from 2015 to 2023 before taking over leadership of the APC. His departure now opens the way for a temporary leader to guide the party until new elections are held later this year.
