Five men have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Lanre Adebayo, a 46-year-old graduate of political science from the University of Ilorin. The suspects include a community chairman, two local security guards, and two other individuals, according to the Kwara State Police Command.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Ita-Elepa area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State. Adebayo reportedly got into a heated argument with the local security guards while on his way home. Witnesses claim that the disagreement quickly escalated into violence, resulting in Adebayo being attacked with machetes around 10:00 p.m.
“The altercation turned violent, leading to a tragic outcome. Adebayo was attacked, and the injuries he sustained led to his death,” a source familiar with the incident stated.
Following the fatal attack, police operatives arrested the suspects on Tuesday. They were then transferred to the Kwara State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Ilorin on Wednesday for further questioning.
Kwara State Police Command Spokesperson, Ejire Adeyemi Adetoun, confirmed the arrests and the ongoing investigation.
“The case was reported to the command headquarters on Wednesday evening, and the suspects, all males, have been brought in for further interrogation. Investigation is ongoing, and we will brief the press once it is concluded,” Adetoun said.
