A groundbreaking development in the automotive industry could spell the end of gasoline as we know it. Electriq Global, an Israeli company, has unveiled the first-ever water-powered car, boasting an impressive range of 1,000 kilometers per tank.

Electriq Global’s proprietary system converts water into hydrogen, which is then used to generate electricity to power the vehicle. The company has developed a unique membrane that splits water into hydrogen and oxygen using significantly less electricity than previous methods.
This hydrogen is then fed into the car’s fuel cell, where it combines with oxygen from the air to produce an electric current. The only byproduct of this process is clean water vapor, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional combustion engines.
Electriq Global has been testing its technology extensively. In 2018, they successfully road-tested a Renault Clio retrofitted with the hydrogen-on-demand fuel system, achieving speeds over 70 mph without any engine modifications. Future tests are planned with a Suzuki Vitara SUV, aiming to demonstrate a range of over 600 miles per tank, comparable to traditional gasoline vehicles.
“The fuel converter efficiently extracts hydrogen from water and feeds it to the engine with no loss of performance compared to gasoline,” said a representative from Electriq Global.
The company’s goal is to prove the viability of water-powered vehicles for everyday consumer use.
