The federal government has started a free six-month training programme for 120 young people in Plateau State to learn poultry farming skills.
The training is part of the National Youth Skills Acquisition Fund (NYESAF) under the IDEAS project — Innovation, Development, and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills.
Speaking at the launch on Saturday in Jos, Mr. Daniel Jarafu, CEO of VetVille Nigeria Limited, said the project aims to help youths become skilled, self-reliant, and capable of creating jobs for others.
“This training is designed to make young people independent and employers of labour, which will also help boost the country’s economy,” he said.

Mr. Jarafu explained that the training will last six months — the first three months will be for classroom lessons, while the last three will focus on hands-on practical experience.
At the end of the programme, trainees will take the National Skills Qualifications (NSQs) exam to receive certificates equal to those from formal education.
Guest of honour, Mr. Arhyel Balami, praised the initiative, calling it “a highly laudable step” that will give youths practical farming skills and a path to sustainable income.
He encouraged the participants to stay committed. “Be diligent, attend all your sessions, and pay close attention so you can make the most of this opportunity,” he advised
The NYESAF programme plans to train 75,000 young Nigerians across the country to promote job creation, entrepreneurship, and economic independence.
The government says the project shows its strong commitment to giving Nigerian youths the skills they need to succeed and grow the economy.
