In a shocking and tragic incident, two domestic staff members of Mrs. Olakunbi Adene, the popular caterer and Chief Executive Officer of Kitchen Country in Akure, Ondo State, have confessed to brutally murdering their employer.
Mrs. Adene, who had recently celebrated her 54th birthday, was killed by the same staff members she had graciously served a meal to as a gesture of appreciation.
The horrific crime took place at Mrs. Adene’s residence on Oda Road in Akure. The suspects, who were later arrested by police in Akure and Idanre, revealed the chilling details of how they planned and executed the murder.
According to a police source, the suspects—a driver and a personal assistant—attacked Mrs. Adene on the night she had prepared a special meal for them. After the meal, they gagged her and used cutlasses to sever her head, despite her desperate pleas for mercy.
“The first suspect was tracked to Idanre, while the second was caught in Akure. One of them confessed that they went to their boss’s house with another friend, and after eating the food she cooked for them, they brutally attacked her,” the source disclosed.
The suspects further confessed that they used knives to stab Mrs. Adene multiple times in the stomach, chest, and breasts, causing her intestines to spill out. They then tried to cover up their crime by creating the appearance of a gas explosion. They opened the gas cylinder in the kitchen, lit it with matches, and attempted to set the house on fire, hoping to pass the incident off as an accident. However, their plan failed when the gas cylinder did not explode as they had expected.
The suspects stole Mrs. Adene’s ATM cards and two Android phones before fleeing the scene. These phones were instrumental in their capture, as police tracked the devices to their locations in Akure and Idanre, leading to their arrest.
Speaking about the devastating loss, Mrs. Adene’s younger brother, Adebola Oyeneye, shared his sorrow.
“I was the one who took the body to the mortuary,” he said, recounting how the suspects had attempted to burn part of her stomach.
Her husband, Dele Adene, also expressed his grief and confirmed that an autopsy would be conducted to determine the full extent of the injuries inflicted on his wife.
“I went with the police to the house last Friday, searching for the knives they used. One of them confessed that when one knife broke, they picked up another one. It’s only after the autopsy that we will know the full extent of what they did,” Mr. Adene said.
