The Dangote refinery has announced it will begin its free fuel distribution scheme on Monday, starting with Lagos, the South-West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States.
Spokesman for the Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday. He said the refinery had also reduced petrol pump prices to N841 per litre in Lagos and the South-West, and N851 per litre in Abuja, Kwara, Edo, Rivers, and Delta States.
“We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday. We will start with Lagos and the South-West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States. There will be a drop in price effective on Monday when the free distribution starts,” Chiejina said.
The scheme, which was originally scheduled to begin in August, was delayed due to logistics challenges in China. According to reports, over 1,000 trucks have now arrived in Nigeria to enable the programme to begin.

Dangote also disclosed that more states will benefit from the scheme as additional trucks arrive. To strengthen logistics, the company has rolled out 10,000 CNG-powered trucks this year, despite recent increases in CNG prices.
“Even though we recently noticed how the CNG prices doubled a week ago, that will not deter our 10,000 CNG truck roll-out this year,” the company said.
The free fuel scheme is expected to ease the burden of high transportation costs and fuel prices for Nigerians while also boosting local supply across the country.
