Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Aliko Dangote Group, has donated N1.5 billion to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State. The announcement was made during his visit to the flood-affected areas, where he was accompanied by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.

Out of the N1.5 billion donation, Dangote explained that N1 billion was allocated to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work alongside the Borno State government in providing relief to those affected by the disaster.

“We received a letter from NEMA requesting assistance, and after careful consideration, we approved N1 billion for NEMA to collaborate with the state government to address the situation,” Dangote stated.

In addition to this substantial contribution, the Aliko Dangote Foundation will provide an additional N500 million to further support the recovery efforts.

“On top of that, the Aliko Dangote Foundation will add N500 million, making it a total of N1.5 billion. Thank you,” Dangote added.

Governor Abdullahi Sule also announced that Nasarawa State would send trucks filled with relief materials to assist the Borno State government in its efforts to help the victims. However, the exact number of trucks was not specified during the announcement.

In response to the generous donations, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum expressed profound gratitude, acknowledging Dangote’s continued support for the people of Borno.

“Not everyone who has wealth has the heart of giving, but Aliko Dangote has consistently helped our people. This is not the first time he has extended his hand of generosity to us. I pray that Allah rewards you with Aljannah (paradise),” Governor Zulum said.

Zulum also extended his appreciation to Governor Sule for accompanying Dangote during this difficult time, highlighting the importance of solidarity and support from neighboring states.

The flood, which has devastated parts of Maiduguri, left many families displaced and in urgent need of assistance. With Dangote’s significant contribution and the collaborative efforts of the government and humanitarian agencies, it is hoped that relief and rehabilitation efforts will bring much-needed support to those affected by the disaster.
