A Federal High Court in Abuja has found Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt for violating a court order with a Facebook post made in April.
Justice Binta Nyako delivered the ruling on Friday while hearing the senator’s case against her suspension from the Senate. The judge said Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Facebook post on April 27 disobeyed an earlier court order that warned all parties not to speak to the press or post on social media about the case.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, filed the contempt application. He claimed the senator’s post went against the court’s instruction and should be punished.

In her defence, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer argued that the post was not related to the suspension case but referred to another matter involving sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio.
But Justice Nyako disagreed. “After reviewing the post and the application before me, I am satisfied that it is connected to the suspension case,” she ruled.
The court ordered Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to publish a formal apology in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page within seven days. The judge also fined her ₦5 million.
