More than 6.2 million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), with Borno State overtaking Osun and Lagos to take the lead.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the figures on Monday through its official X handle and website. The data showed that a total of 6,232,673 Nigerians pre-registered between September 22 and 28, 2025.

According to INEC, women made up 52.15 percent (3,250,338) of the figure, while men accounted for 47.85 percent (2,982,335). Youths aged 18 to 34 dominated the process with 4,230,715 registrations, while students contributed over 1.5 million entries. Persons with disabilities also featured, with 137,865 registrations.

Borno State emerged top with 682,805 pre-registrants, followed by Osun with 599,363, and Lagos with 555,442. Other states with high participation include Kebbi (472,662), Ogun (450,897), Kaduna (376,054), and Kogi (298,194).

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) contributed 227,397 registrations, while Oyo and Jigawa posted 205,660 and 196,234 respectively. At the lower end, Ondo registered 14,388, Edo had 10,278, Ebonyi recorded 6,935, Abia had 5,225, and Enugu posted the lowest figure with 5,092.

INEC also reported that in week five, covering September 22 to 26, a total of 1,004,132 Nigerians completed both online and physical registrations. Of these, 555,077 were female (55.28%) and 449,055 male (44.72%). Youths again dominated with 742,379 entries, while students accounted for 354,406.

Until recently, states in the South-West, especially Osun, Lagos, and Ogun, had consistently led the CVR process since it began on August 18, 2025. However, INEC noted a surge in northern states, particularly Borno and Kebbi, driven by community organisations, religious leaders, and local officials who intensified awareness campaigns.

INEC urged Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing registration to ensure they can participate in future elections.
