Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have kidnapped a professor from the Nigerian Army University, Biu, along with several other travelers on the Damaturu-Biu Road near Kamuya village in Yobe State. The attack happened around noon on Monday, according to sources within the university.
The professor, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly returning from Maiduguri after visiting his family when the gunmen struck.
A university official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident.
“I am not in a position to disclose this officially, but the news is all over campus. I believe the university’s communication office will issue a statement in due time,” the source said.
It was also revealed that the kidnapped professor was one of 30 candidates who had applied for the position of vice-chancellor at the university.

Fear and Uncertainty
The kidnapping has sparked fear among university staff and residents, as terrorist activities continue to escalate in Nigeria’s northeastern region. Attempts to reach the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered.
This latest abduction adds to a series of violent attacks in the region. In January, suspected Boko Haram militants ambushed troops in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing at least six soldiers. That same month, 20 fishermen were massacred in the Gadan Gari community of Bama LGA, while 40 farmers were killed in Dumba village, Kukawa LGA. Dozens of other people were kidnapped.
February also saw rising violence, with seven people killed in two separate attacks in Damboa LGA.
Rising Insecurity in the Northeast
The increasing terrorist activities have raised concerns about the safety of residents and travelers. Despite ongoing military operations, Boko Haram and its factions continue to launch deadly assaults, targeting civilians and security forces alike.
With this latest kidnapping, many are calling for urgent action to strengthen security along major roads and protect communities vulnerable to attacks.
