The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has nominated former Governor Samuel Ortom as a member of its national Board of Trustees (BOT). The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, and shared with journalists in Makurdi, the state capital.
The nomination comes as part of the party’s effort to refresh its leadership following the expiration of the tenure of previous BOT members. According to the statement, the decision aligns with Sections 32(1)(g) and 32(4) of the PDP constitution. The official notification of Ortom’s nomination was issued by the party’s secretariat and signed by the State Secretary, Dan Nyikwagh.
The PDP’s State Working Committee (SWC), led by Chairman Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Awulu Adaji, expressed confidence in Ortom’s ability to excel in his new role.
“After careful deliberation, the SWC unanimously endorsed you for the position, recognising your invaluable contributions to the party, your exemplary leadership, and your commitment to the ideals and progress of the PDP,” the statement read.

The party highlighted Ortom’s extensive experience and unwavering dedication to the PDP, describing him as the ideal candidate to strengthen the party’s influence at both state and national levels.
“This nomination is not just an acknowledgment of Chief Ortom’s past contributions but a recognition of his capacity to shape the policies and direction of the PDP, not only in Benue State but across Nigeria,” the statement added.
The PDP leadership in Benue believes Ortom’s inclusion in the BOT will enhance the party’s strategic direction as it prepares for upcoming elections. The statement further emphasized that his role would help unify the party in Benue while ensuring that the state’s interests are represented within the national framework of the PDP.
