In a tragic turn of events, bandits killed a 27-year-old man named Abba after he delivered a ransom of N16 million and three motorcycles to secure the release of nine abducted residents in Jere town, Kaduna State. The incident occurred last Saturday.
A security reporter, Zagazola Makama, on X (formerly Twitter) reported that the bandits initially attacked homes in Unguwar Iya, Jere, on April 16, 2024, kidnapping nine people and demanding N30 million for their release.
Shuaibu Hussaini, a resident, confirmed the killing during a telephone interview on Wednesday. He explained that Abba, who was negotiating the ransom, delivered N16 million and three motorcycles to the bandits’ leader. After receiving the ransom, the bandits’ leader tied Abba with a rope and shot him.
“One of the released victims said the bandits’ leader killed Abba because he was allegedly rude during the ransom negotiations,” Hussaini said. “The family learned about Abba’s death when they contacted the bandits to ask about his whereabouts. The bandits’ leader then directed them to a location where they found his body.”
Hussaini mentioned that Abba’s death has deeply affected not only his family but the entire Jere community. However, the Kaduna State Police Command has not yet commented on the incident.
