Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of using government agencies to suppress opposition rather than genuinely fighting corruption.
Atiku made this statement while condemning the recent arrest of Professor Usman Yusuf, a well-known social critic. He took to his X account to criticize the government, claiming it was abusing state power to silence critics instead of focusing on real governance issues.
“The Tinubu administration is more interested in manipulating the system for political gain than fighting corruption,” Atiku said.
He also questioned the timing of Yusuf’s arrest, pointing out that the charges against him originated from the previous administration. Atiku argued that the government was being selective in its approach, shielding some individuals under investigation while going after others who oppose the current leadership.
“It is hypocrisy for this government to protect those facing corruption charges while using state institutions to suppress opposition voices,” he added.

The government has not yet responded to Atiku’s accusations, but the controversy continues to fuel debates about the administration’s commitment to transparency and justice.
