In a significant operation, the Nigerian Army’s 21 Armoured Brigade successfully rescued 99 women and children, including one of the Chibok girls, Ihyi Abudu, and her two children, from Boko Haram’s stronghold in Sambisa Forest.
Zagazola Makama, a security reporter on X (formerly Twitter) reported that the operation, named Operation Lake Sanity II, is part of the ongoing efforts of Operation Hadin Kai to eradicate terrorists from the North East Region.
Makama said intelligence sources reported that Ihyi Abudu, listed as number 67 among the abducted Chibok girls, was found after escaping from the terrorists’ hideouts in Parisu. She was rescued during a clearance operation in the BARARAM general area of Sambisa Forest. The troops encountered a distressing scene: 41 women and 57 children, along with Ihyi Abudu and her children, were malnourished and traumatized but alive.

Following the successful rescue, the Nigerian Army’s Medical Corps provided immediate medical care to the freed captives. The team worked swiftly to assess their condition, addressing signs of malnutrition, dehydration, and exposure to diseases. They administered vaccines and medications to prevent the spread of diseases among the rescued individuals.
A source highlighted that Ihyi Abudu is the 19th Chibok girl to be rescued by the Nigerian Army. Over 161,000 Boko Haram members and their families have surrendered during various operations.
