The Anambra State Police Command, working with the security Joint Task Force, has uncovered a stash of explosives and other dangerous items during a raid on a criminal hideout in Ihiala. The raid, carried out in a well-coordinated operation, also led to the recovery of abandoned vehicles and explosive-making materials.
Confirming the operation, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that the success of the raid was due to intelligence gathered over time.
“Following security intelligence gathered, the joint security forces were able to plan and execute a successful operation at a criminal camp in Ihiala,” Ikenga said in a statement released on Saturday.
The raid took place in three different areas within Ihiala Local Government Area, specifically in Lilu, Mbosi, and Isseke. During the operation, the security forces recovered three unexploded improvised explosives (IEDs), abandoned vehicles, and materials believed to be used for making more dangerous devices.
“Two abandoned vehicles and other explosive materials like copper wires, fuel, and other dangerous items were recovered from the scene,” Ikenga added.
This operation is part of the broader effort by security forces in Anambra to crack down on criminal activities in the state. While no arrests were made during the raid, authorities are continuing their investigations to track down those responsible for the illegal weapons and explosives found at the camp.
The presence of unexploded IEDs is a significant concern for residents, but Ikenga reassured the public that the security forces are taking necessary precautions to keep the community safe. The recovered explosives are currently being examined by bomb experts to ensure they pose no further risk.
The police urge anyone with information about suspicious activities or abandoned properties to report them, as cooperation between the public and security forces remains essential in maintaining peace and safety.
