Human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa has urged youths to suspend the #EndBadGovernance protests that have been ongoing for two days. He made this appeal in a statement on Friday, citing concerns about the protests being infiltrated by disruptive elements.
“Though the intention of the organizers was to achieve peaceful and well-coordinated protests, it would seem that fifth columnists and some angry persons infiltrated the ranks of the protesters to derail their laudable mission,” Adegboruwa said.
He advised the protesters to withdraw from their various protest sites and suspend the demonstrations immediately and indefinitely to allow for meaningful dialogue with the government. “It is necessary to avoid further losses and casualties,” he added.
Adegboruwa, who is also the lawyer for the Take It Back Movement, one of the groups organizing the protests, expressed regret over the deaths and losses recorded during the demonstrations. “The organizers of the protests and their representatives should embrace dialogue with the government,” he said.
He extended his condolences to the families of both security personnel and protesters who lost their lives, praying for comfort and strength for the bereaved.
Prior to the protests, Adegboruwa had suggested that the organizers reduce the planned 10-day action to one day.

In his statement, Adegboruwa also called on President Bola Tinubu to address the nation directly and engage with the protesters through their representatives. He recommended that the government set up a committee of reputable individuals to meet with the protesters and address their concerns.
The call for suspension and dialogue comes as the #EndBadGovernance protests continue to draw attention nationwide, highlighting issues of governance and accountability in the country.
