A Magistrate Court in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State has ordered the remand of the traditional ruler of Okai Item, His Royal Highness Eze James Ogbonna, and two others in the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Umuahia. The three men are facing allegations of involvement in the murder of 20-year-old Ndukwe Isaac.
The other accused persons, Igwe Anyim and Ndukwe Sunday Igara, were also brought before the court last Thursday in connection with the tragic killing, which was reportedly carried out by angry youths from the community.
Father Cries for Justice
The father of the deceased, Mr. Isaac Maduka, who hails from Umuikpa Akanu, has been calling for justice since the brutal incident took place on January 28. Speaking to reporters, he expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his son and urged the authorities to ensure those responsible face the full weight of the law.
“This is a painful loss for my family. My son was taken from me in the most gruesome way. I just want justice,” he said.

Court Proceedings
During the court session, the presiding magistrate, His Worship Elizabeth, directed the prosecuting attorney to transfer the case file to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, the prosecuting counsel, U. Ekpo, argued against the decision, stating that since information about the case had already been filed before a High Court, there was no need for another submission. But he later agreed to comply with the magistrate’s order, stating that he did so in the interest of maintaining public peace.
“We have taken this case very seriously and have already filed information before the High Court. This will ensure that the defendants appear and take their plea,” Ekpo stated.
On the other hand, the defense counsel, J. Osisiogu, countered Ekpo’s claim, stating that the prosecution had not served any official information to his clients, even on the day of the hearing.
