The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step forward in unraveling the mystery surrounding the death of music star Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. Recent developments indicate that the toxicology test conducted to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death has been completed and submitted to the police authorities for further action.
Mohbad, who passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, left behind a trail of controversies surrounding the circumstances of his demise. As investigations unfolded, the Lagos State Police Command inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death.
The completion of the toxicology test marks a crucial milestone in the investigation, shedding light on the internal factors contributing to Mohbad’s untimely passing. A state government source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the readiness of the test results and its transmission to the police authorities.
“The toxicology test was ready and transmitted to the police last week,” stated the source. “We projected 10 weeks from the outset but it came in before then. It was received by the DNA and Forensic Centre last week and has been sent to the police.”

While the toxicology report has been received by the police, further analysis is required to interpret its findings accurately. A source within the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the receipt of the results and their subsequent transfer to the pathologist responsible for the autopsy.
“The toxicology report is with us. It arrived on Monday but it is medical jargon for us,” remarked the source. “We don’t understand what it is. So it has been sent to the pathologist that carried out the autopsy to analyze and interpret it.”
Despite the progress in the investigation, officials involved in the case, including the Lagos State Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro, and Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, remained unavailable for comment as of press time.
Earlier statements from the Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, Richard Somiari, had hinted at the anticipated completion of the toxicology results within three to four weeks. Somiari emphasized the thoroughness of the investigation process, reassuring the public of the security and integrity of the samples analyzed.
“We expected to get the first set of autopsy results in three to four weeks and re-confirm to authenticate the cause of death,” said Somiari during a coroner’s inquest into the singer’s death. “We searched for multiple possibilities, to check if poison was involved in the death of Mohbad since no actual cause was mentioned.”
As stakeholders await further developments, the completion of the toxicology test brings renewed hope for answers and closure for Mohbad’s family, friends, and fans. The outcome of the investigation is expected to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of the music star and pave the way for justice to be served.
