The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, Aliyu Yaro, for allegedly killing his three-day-old son. The shocking incident occurred in Kwacham Ward, Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Police apprehended Yaro on Friday after his girlfriend, Safiya, accused him of murdering their newborn baby.

According to a statement released by the police on Saturday and signed by the Command spokesperson, CSP Suleiman Nguroji, Yaro confessed to the crime during interrogation. “He admitted to impregnating the mother of the deceased, who was his girlfriend. After she gave birth, she repeatedly called him to take responsibility for the baby,” Nguroji said.

Details of the Crime

The suspect allegedly visited Safiya’s home late at night after receiving a call from her. During the visit, Yaro asked his girlfriend to fetch water for him. While she was away, he took the infant, leaving the house and later burying the baby at a location called Girpata in Mubi around 9:00 p.m. Yaro led police officers to the burial site, where the baby’s remains were exhumed.

Nguroji explained, “During interrogation, Yaro confessed to taking the child from the mother’s house under false pretenses. He buried the baby that night. It’s a tragic and deeply troubling case.”

Police React to the Incident

Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, expressed his dismay over the killing. “The act is deeply disturbing and against human values,” Dankombo said. He assured the public that justice would be served, noting that the case had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspect.

Local residents have reacted with shock and anger, condemning the suspect’s actions. One community member said, “This is a horrible crime. It’s unthinkable that someone could do this to their own child. We hope the police will ensure he faces the full weight of the law.”

The arrest has sparked renewed conversations around the responsibilities of young parents and the need for stronger measures to protect vulnerable children. As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, awaiting justice for the life cut tragically short
