Kylian Mbappé has once again been dropped from the France national team, marking the second consecutive time the French captain has been excluded from the squad. Coach Didier Deschamps has addressed the decision, explaining that it was made with the team’s best interests in mind.
The 25-year-old star, who recently joined Real Madrid, has struggled to find his rhythm with the Spanish club. This has led some to believe that his lack of form at the club level may be affecting his performances with the national team as well. Mbappé was left out of the squad for France’s matches against Israel and Belgium last month, and now, he has been excluded again for the final two Nations League matches against Italy and Israel.
Deschamps spoke to the media, clarifying that his decision was not related to any personal issues or off-field drama. “I had several exchanges with him,” Deschamps explained. “I thought about it and made this decision about this gathering. I think it’s better like this.” The coach stressed that Mbappé wanted to play and that there were no external problems influencing the decision.
“It’s a one-off choice for this gathering with the two matches awaiting us,” Deschamps added. “It’s my decision, it’s better that way. I can understand that this is not enough for you, but I am not going to get into an argument that leads to interpretations.”
Deschamps made it clear that his decision was not easy and that he takes full responsibility for it. “I only have hard decisions. I have had to make important, tough decisions several times,” he said. “Behind every player, there is a human being too. When I make lists for a competition, I don’t just make people happy. It is my responsibility to make the decisions.”
Despite the snub, Mbappé will have the chance to rest during the international break and work on his fitness. This time off will allow him to recover fully and potentially improve his understanding of Real Madrid’s system, which may help him get back to his best form.
Deschamps emphasized that he was not looking to explain every detail of his decision. “I’m not going to put a slider,” he said. “I repeat, it is my responsibility, I fully assume it. I live with this and each time I have to make more or less harsh decisions. It all depends on the sensitivity of each person.”
Mbappé’s absence from the squad has raised questions about his future with the French national team. However, for now, Deschamps is focusing on what he believes is best for the team as they prepare for their upcoming Nations League matches.
