The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to ensure justice for a security guard who was killed by three dogs at Pinnock Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos. The tragic incident, which occurred on Monday night, has prompted swift action from law enforcement, including the arrest of the dog owner, Salisu Mustapha.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Command spokesperson, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that the dogs have been confiscated and the owner is now in police custody. “The dog owner has been arrested and is in our custody,” Hundeyin stated on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle. He added that an investigation has already begun to uncover the circumstances leading to the attack.
The fatal incident came to public attention through a viral video shared on social media by a user identified as @itzbasito. The video showed the lifeless body of the unidentified security guard, with the Boerboel dogs nearby. The user alleged that the dogs had been unknowingly let out, leading to the fatal attack.

In a follow-up statement on Wednesday, Hundeyin reiterated the police’s commitment to justice and assured the public of a thorough investigation.
“Following the unfortunate mauling of a security man to death by three dogs in Pinnock Estate, Ilasan, Lekki on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested the owner of the dogs, Salisu Mustapha, and confiscated the dogs pending the outcome of discreet investigations that have since commenced,” he said.
Hundeyin also conveyed a message from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, who pledged that justice would be served.
“The Commissioner of Police… assures residents of the estate and the entire people of Lagos State that the ongoing investigations will be brought to a conclusive end and justice will be served as appropriate.”
The tragic death of the security guard is not the first incident involving dog attacks in Lagos. In October 2022, two German shepherd dogs fatally attacked a passerby, Hashiru Isah, in the Abule Egba area. Reports indicated that the dogs escaped due to a faulty gate at a church premises. Enraged members of the community later hunted down and killed the dogs.
