The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State has apprehended a truck driver working for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for allegedly diverting 10,000 litres of petrol. The suspect, Afeez Adegbola, was detained alongside two of his assistants, accused of failing to deliver the full fuel load.
State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Igbalawole Sotiyo, disclosed the details on Saturday in Osogbo, while parading the suspects. According to Sotiyo, the arrest took place on Friday evening around 8:21 p.m. after officers received information about a possible diversion.
The truck, which had registration number AGG 959 XA, had initially loaded 40,000 litres of petrol at the Pinnacle Distribution Depot in Eleko, Lagos. However, it was only found to have delivered 30,000 litres upon reaching the NNPCL Mega Station in Osogbo. “This is an act of sabotage and theft against the state,” Sotiyo declared. “They are saboteurs and anti-state.”
He added that the NSCDC would not tolerate any attempts to undermine the government’s efforts in fuel distribution, stating that the agency is committed to upholding transparency and accountability. “NSCDC is using this medium to warn all the stakeholders involved in the distribution of petroleum products nationwide that anyone caught sabotaging the government would be apprehended and prosecuted,” he stated firmly.
Sotiyo also urged NNPCL managers and supervisors across Nigeria to cooperate with the NSCDC in identifying and stopping those responsible for such activities. “NSCDC uses this medium to request NNPCL Managers/Supervisors nationwide to work with the NSCDC to ensure saboteurs are brought to justice,” he added.
