Popular cross-dresser Okuneye Idris, widely known as Bobrisky, was detained by immigration officials late Thursday night while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight, sparking a flurry of speculation and concern on social media.
Bobrisky, a well-known social media personality, took to Instagram to inform followers about the incident, sharing that he sustained injuries during an altercation with immigration officials.
In a plea for public support, he wrote, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
Bobrisky claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was behind his detention, though no further details have been provided by the agency.
This incident follows a series of high-profile legal and social controversies surrounding the personality, dating back to April 2024 when he was sentenced by the Federal High Court in Lagos to six months in prison for naira abuse. Officially, Bobrisky served time in Lagos’s Kirikiri Prison, but reports emerged alleging that he spent only three weeks in the facility before being discreetly relocated to a private location. The sudden transfer led to widespread rumors of preferential treatment allegedly secured through a ₦15 million bribe to officials.

In response to the ongoing rumors, public scrutiny around Bobrisky intensified. The situation reached new heights in late September 2024 when social media influencer VeryDarkMan released an audio recording, purportedly containing Bobrisky’s voice, alleging interactions with prominent figures during his incarceration. In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly claimed that musician Falz and his father, the human rights lawyer Femi Falana, had approached him, requesting ₦10 million to secure a presidential pardon.
Falana and Falz quickly responded, denouncing the allegations as defamatory and issuing a formal cease-and-desist letter to Bobrisky on October 16, 2024. They demanded a public apology and a full retraction of the statements.
However, Bobrisky denied making the claims, stating, “I never said those things; I have nothing to do with that recording,” and urged the Falanas to direct their concerns toward VeryDarkMan, whom he held accountable for the leaked content.
This recent arrest marks yet another chapter in the ongoing saga surrounding Bobrisky. Earlier in October, he was intercepted at the Sème border under unclear circumstances, which raised additional questions about his legal situation. The latest incident at the airport suggests the legal matters may be far from over, adding another layer of intrigue to a case that has captured national attention.
