The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has condemned the alleged assault of an e-hailing driver by Alex Ikwechegh, the member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The party announced its intention to investigate the incident and impose sanctions if necessary.
A viral video surfaced recently, showing Ikwechegh allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver who had come to deliver an item at the lawmaker’s residence in Abuja. The footage has sparked widespread outrage, prompting APGA to distance itself from Ikwechegh’s actions.
In a statement released on Monday, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, made the party’s stance clear.
“The attention of our great party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, has been drawn to a viral video of alleged assault meted out to a citizen by the Honourable member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Alex Ikwechegh,” Opara stated.
Opara emphasized that APGA stands for the protection of human rights and condemned the behavior shown in the video. He stressed that the party’s principles are rooted in respect for human dignity, regardless of background.
“As a political party founded on respect for human rights, we roundly condemn the action of our said member and Federal Parliamentarian, Alex Ikwechegh. The recent video allegedly showing Ikwechegh assaulting a cab driver is totally unacceptable and runs counter to what our Party – APGA – represents,” Opara added.
The party also announced that it would form a disciplinary committee to thoroughly investigate the allegations against Ikwechegh. According to the statement, the committee will review the evidence and decide on appropriate sanctions in line with the party’s constitution.
“In line with APGA’s constitution, the leadership of the party shall set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the act, and if found wanting, appropriate sanctions shall be meted on him,” Opara stated.

APGA highlighted its expectations for all party members and elected officials to maintain high standards of conduct.
Opara reiterated, “All members of APGA and indeed all elected officials on the platform of the party are expected to exhibit the highest standards of decorum, civility, and integrity in all public and private engagements.”
The statement further emphasized that APGA would not tolerate any behavior that contradicts its core values.
“Our party shall not tolerate any verifiable conduct that is not in tandem with the ideals of our founding fathers. In APGA, we are our Brother’s and Sister’s keeper and it cannot be any other way,” Opara concluded.
