Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has ousted 15 traditional rulers from their positions based on recommendations from a committee he established to investigate various allegations against them.
The decision to reoffence traditional rulers came after the committee found them guilty of the offenses they were investigated for.
Malam Abubakar Bawa, the Press Secretary to the Sokoto State Governor, informed the press that the dismissed traditional rulers were relieved of their positions for offenses such as insubordination, supporting banditry activities, involvement in land racketeering, and misappropriation of public property.

The affected traditional leaders include district heads from Ungwan Lalle, Yabo, Giyawa, Dogon Daji, Wamakko, Tulluwa, Illela, Kebbe, and Alkammu.
Additionally, the governor approved the removal of six district heads whose appointment processes were deemed irregular and unprocedural, including those from Tambuwal, Tangaza, Gongonno, Yar Tsakuwa, Kalambaina, and Toronkawa.
Furthermore, the governor endorsed the transfer of the district heads of Binji and Sabon Birni to Bumkari and Gatawa, respectively. While seven traditional rulers were retained in their positions, two others were instructed to revert to their previous roles.
However, the investigation into allegations against the district heads of Isa, Kuchi Kilgori, and Gagi is ongoing, indicating that further action may be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
Sokoto State has a total of 86 district heads under the Sultanate Council, along with other title holders and council members responsible for overseeing the traditional andrrumoursious affairs of the districts.
