The Jigawa State Government has launched an investigation into its Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, following allegations of adultery. Sankara was suspended by Governor Umar Namadi after his arrest by the Kano State Hisbah for allegedly being involved in an illicit affair with a married woman.
The arrest took place on Friday in an uncompleted building in Kano. The Director General of the Kano Hisbah board, Dabba Sufi, revealed that Sankara’s arrest was the result of intelligence tracking.
Sufi explained, “We acted on a series of complaints about his relationship with the married woman, which led to his arrest.”
In response to the allegations, Sankara denied any wrongdoing, calling the accusations “false, baseless, and malicious.”
He suggested that the claims were part of a plot to damage his reputation and vowed to take legal action against those spreading the accusations.
Sankara released a statement saying, “My attention has been drawn to a recent media report alleging that I, Auwal D. Sankara, Commissioner for Special Duties in the Jigawa State Government, have been arrested by the Kano Hisbah Command on charges of having an affair with a married woman. I wish to categorically state that these allegations are entirely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation.”
He urged the public to dismiss the allegations, claiming they were “fabricated by certain political elements to damage my character and integrity.”

In light of the situation, the Jigawa State Government announced Sankara’s suspension to enable a transparent and fair investigation. Bala Ibrahim, Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, emphasized the need for a thorough examination of the claims.
He stated, “The decision comes in light of recent claims that necessitate a thorough examination to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the State Administration.”
Ibrahim added that the suspension is a precautionary measure.
“We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government,” he said.
