In a tragic incident on Friday, terrorists attacked Dan Auta village in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing two people and abducting 13 others, including women and children. Among the abducted is Alhaji Imamu, the chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area.

The attackers, who witnesses say arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, were heavily armed with automatic weapons. A local resident, who witnessed the incident, described the terror that swept through the village.

“They came in a large group on motorcycles, shooting in the air and causing panic. The sound of gunfire was everywhere,” the witness recounted.

Despite efforts by members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and local vigilante groups to defend the village, they were overwhelmed by the attackers’ numbers. During the assault, a KSCWC operative lost his life while attempting to protect the community.

“He tried to resist them, but there were just too many of them. He died fighting for us,” a villager shared, mourning the loss.

The second victim, a resident of the village, was reportedly shot after trying to resist being taken by the assailants. The attack has left the community in shock and grief, with many fearful for the safety of those who were kidnapped.

“We are praying for their safe return. It’s a difficult time for us,” another local resident said.

In the aftermath of the attack, several villagers suffered injuries. Some of the injured have been receiving treatment at the local primary health center. A health worker at the center confirmed that they were attending to the wounded.

“We have treated those with minor injuries, but some cases may need more serious medical attention,” the worker noted.

The abduction of Alhaji Imamu, the APC chairman, has heightened tensions in the area, as the community calls for swift action from security agencies.

“We need more protection. The government must do more to keep us safe from these attacks,” a community leader appealed.
